Garbage Smell - you wish you could avoid - here's how

If Garbage Smell is making its way all over your house from your kitchen’s waste disposal unit, you’ve got reason to worry. Well, here are a few things you can do to remedy the situation:

  • Use baking soda to prevent odors staying in your trash cans.  Sprinkle it at the bottom of your trash can so that it absorbs all the garbage smell.

  • In order to get rid of tough odors, use bleaching powder. It can also get rid of germs.

  • If you have cat litter at the bottom of your garbage can, it’s bound to absorb all the unbearable odors and leave behind a beautiful fragrance.

  • To avoid your garbage can from stinking, throw in a dryer sheet. It will block out all stink from stale food and that disgusting garbage smell.

  • Fill up your trash cans with citrus peel so that it absorbsall your food odors.

  • Pour two cups of ice and the peels of two oranges into your disposal unit and grind. Alternatively, you can add the juice of two oranges. Not only is your unit cleaned thoroughly, it also leaves behind a fragrance.

  • Rinse 2 quarts of hot water down the drain after the odor is completely removed. All leftover rind particles will be flushed out and no new bacteria will form. Besides, that garbage smell will also disappear.

  • In any part of your house where the stink emanates from, place baking soda boxes. It will absorb all the foul odors and leave behind fresh air. Change these boxes every month.

  • Light incense sticks or joss sticks inside your house, so that it smells good. The rich and fresh fragrance of incensewill calm your mind.

  • Your house can have a welcoming air to it if the air inside is sweet-smelling. Use essential oils which have a very soothing fragrance to get rid of garbage smell.

  • Grow herbs in your kitchen. This is a natural method of keeping your house smelling pleasant.

  • Use a reputed air purification system which will infuse clean and clear air in your house and allow for more circulation of air.

What not to dump in your garbage disposal unit: You can prevent any foul smell from your garbage cans and consequent plumbing issues by not putting certain foods into the garbage disposal. So, don’t put rice and pasta in the disposal unit as, beyond a point, they cannot be chopped, so they tend to get trapped in the disposal unit and, over time, clog the unit.

Don’t put grease or oil in the disposal unit as again this will lead to clogging because grease sticks to the sides of the pipes and creates lard through water cannot penetrate. Also, don’t put steak and chicken bones down the disposal unit. The unit’s blades are not so sharp that they can cut bones, so if these blades are damaged, it might mean buying a new one.

Similarly, egg shells are hard enough to block the unit since not all of it can pass through easily. Stringy vegetables like lettuce and celery also block the garbage disposal unit and introduce garbage smell.
